About the ASUNM Fee
In March of 2022, the student body passed an ASUNM Constitutional Amendment authorizing a $35.00 flat fee on each undergraduate student (headcount model) for the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. The fee increases by $5.00 every three years (starting in 2022) until the fee reaches a total of $50.00. The Board of Regents approved this constitutional change at their meeting on March 22, 2022. Previously, the ASUNM Fee was credit hour based and included in the "Mandatory Student Fees". It is now a separate fee and more transparent. The ASUNM Fee supports Student Publications, Chartered Student Organizations, and ASUNM operations and events.
ASUNM is more than a Student Government. We strive to enhance and enrich the UNM experience by serving the undergraduate population in both representation and by providing a multitude of opportunities for student engagement. We aim to protect the autonomy of the student body while also uniting each individual in a community that is both welcoming and safe. We are a body that will keep every student informed, and will serve and be the uniting factor of our Lobo family.
The ASUNM Fee is broken down as follows. 8.5% of the ASUNM Fee is allocated to Student Publications. Student Publications includes the Daily Lobo, Conceptions Southwest, and Best Student Essays (https://pubboard.unm.edu). The fees are used to offset student employee salaries, printing, and technology costs. 91.5% of the ASUNM Fee is allocated by the ASUNM Senate to Chartered Student Organizations and ASUNM operations and events. The fees are used to offset student employee salaries, operation costs, event support, travel, equipment, traditions, publications, and more. Chartered Student Organizations supporting undergraduate students are eligible for both fiscal year budgets and semesterly appropriations. More information on the process is available on the ASUNM website: http://asunm.edunm.edu.
